Precautionary Statement
|
Each delegation (country team) in a committee consists of 3 delegates from Korea, China, and Japan. Delegates are expected to research and study the respective committee’s agenda before coming to the TJS.
During the TJS, delegates present the Keynote Speech, in which delegation’s position and possible solutions are included. Based upon this, they join heated discussions and negotiations in order to reach agreement and produce the Joint Statement at the Model Summit. Also, “Mentoring Session” is prepared for all delegates. In this session, delegates are able to learn specific rules and procedures of international conferences. This is a chance for all delegates to freely ask mentors – the Secretariats – about how to write and prepare the Keynote Speech, and to perform during meeting sessions. By participating in the TJS, delegates will be able to develop in-depth knowledge of global issues as well as debating and negotiating skills while working together with other participants from diverse backgrounds. |
The key role of the Secretariat is to lead and preside over meetings at the TJS. By controlling the flow of discussion and dealing with unexpected situations, Secretariats are expected to help and lead delegations in respective committee to reach agreement on the agenda by the final committee meeting.
In addition to this, the Secretariat shall write Chair Report on the respective committee’s agenda. This report is distributed to all delegates in order to encourage their study and research before the TJS. Preparing the Rules of Procedures (R.O.P) for official meetings and the Model Summit is also responsibility of the Secretariat. Meanwhile, Secretariats serve as “Mentors” at the TJS. For delegates, the Secretariat teaches the Rules of Procedure (R.O.P.) used at Model United Nations (MUN). Giving advice and helping delegates with writing conference documents and participating discussion are also their duty. Taking part in the TJS as a Secretariat would be a challenging but valuable experience. Mediating delegates with different views and interests may be difficult some times. However, all members of the Secretariat will be able to improve leadership and challenge spirits after completing the TJS. |
